Reynoldsville Envirothon

This was the fifteenth year the Jefferson Conservation District has sponsored this Envirothon. It is a competition between the 4th & 5th grade classes.  Students learn about  6 different environmental topics and then take a 10 question quiz on what they have learned.  Topics included Water, Soil & Agriculture, D. B. Pests, Recycling and Acid Mine Drainage.  The students also watched a video entitled "Make Mine Milk".  The top three teams received a certificate for their achievements.  Want to try some of the questions? Click here to see if you are smarter than a fourth or fifth grader!
 
Congratulations to this year's top classes!
First Place - Mrs. Marshall's Class
Jim Berry, Jefferson Conservation District, taught students how important soil is to each and every one of them and that Agriculture depends on soil for producing the food we eat as well as clothing, lumber, etc.
Second Place - Mrs. Bailey's Class
Donna Cooper, Recycling Coordinator, taught the students to reduce, reuse, recycle.
Third Place - Mrs. Statler's Class
Susan Alexander, Penn State Cooperative Extension, educated students about common pests and safe ways of using pesticides.
Todd Beers taught students about Acid Mine Drainage and why some streams are orange.
Shaun Wessell, Jefferson Conservation District, taught students that even though the Earth is 75% covered by water, only a small amount is suitable for consumption.
